These subtle items reveal profound changes in Turkish society. The territory which once was cradle to civilization, probably the epicenter of the Neolithic revolution and for fact intrinsic part of the Hellenistic culture, i.e. the very foundation of the Modern European world has slipped into the same trap as Russia and China did: three regional powers ruled by autocratic regimes which drug their people with consumerism and the nostalgic sentiment of a strong nationhood.
I increasingly feel that the US set this trap unconsciously and is about to be caught therein itself. Such are the dynamics of contemporary power politics.
